Light shades printed in 3D

Presented at SIDIM, 2018

The design developed as a study of the qualities of translucency, exploring the limitations of 3D printing technology. The walls of the light shade are 0.5 mm thick, printed in a single extrusion. Particular care has been taken in the design of an object whose finishing surface exhibits the qualities of the manufacturing process. For this purpose, the object was designed to be printed without supports, requiring no sanding or other post-production finishing. The angles have been controlled to stay within the limits of the permissible overhang so that each thread of the filament is placed on the one below.
