Irina Nazarova, architect
MOAQ, RIBA, NCARB
I began my career in Quebec, working on two theater projects with atelier TAG, and with atelier Paul Laurendeau. For a number of years I worked on projects of heritage conservation with Étude Louis Brillant and I continue this collaboration today. I worked with Henri Cleinge, architect, on a number of residential projects. My career path then took me to Europe, where I was part of the Foster + Partners team from 2008 to 2016. I am proud to have contributed, among others, to the project of Masdar - an experimental sustainable city in the Middle East which looks at how we are going to live when the oil resources run out, and the project of Jeddah Metro, whose aim was that each of the metro stations does more for the city by acting also as a public gathering place. On my return to Montreal in 2017 I opened i•on architecture studio.
I am inspired by the past and by the future - by new possibilities offered in architecture to 3D print walls of the building on site without material wastage, and by those things that will never change, such as the poetry of spaces shaped by light.”
